What The Elk?
Загружено: briczar22Описание видео:
The elk, or wapiti (Cervus canadensis), is second only to the Moose as the largest species of deer in North America.
The elk is an ungulate, a mammal with an even number of toes on each foot. It is a ruminant species, with a four-chambered stomach, just like many domestic livestock. It is thought, the four sub species of elk in North America that remain, are the Rocky Mountain, the Roosevelt, the Tule, and the Manitoban. (The Rocky Mountain Elk is the official state animal for Utah) Elk are also found in parts of Eastern Asia.
Elk (the bulls) are probably known best for their amazing antlers which can grow to four feet.
Elks are known to get a variety of diseases and, efforts (mainly vaccinations) are in place to eliminate infectious diseases from elk populations which can infect livestock. So far they have had have mixed results.
Their populations seem to be steady and some were even taken from Yellowstone to bring to eastern areas like the Smokey Mountains.
It is always important to support those protecting our forest and the great wildlife in them.

camera with me back in the day when we went all around, but am trying to make up for lost time. Weston rules.
they look so familiar to our Red deer.
I would much rather see and photograph them alive then as dead "trophies" on some
redneck's wall.
